The department of Physics, Union Christian College, Aluva, has scaled new heights since its inception in 1926. The B. Sc. Physics course was started in 1939. In 1958, the department saw the dawn of a new horizon with the sanction of M. Sc. Physics which was the first approved PG course by UGC to a private college in Kerala. The Ernakulum centre of the Physics Department of the Kerala University started functioning in this Department in 1963 and it was this centre which later developed into the Physics Department of Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Kochi.
