Workshop on Mathematical Physics

Department of Physics Union Christian College Aluva in association with Academy of Physics Teachers (APT) organized a three day residential workshop (5-7th SEPTEMBER ) for first semester post graduate students on Mathematical Physics. The workshop was envisioned to bridge the gap the students face in post graduate classes and expected to be helpful in preparing for exams like NET,GATE etc. Students from various colleges and university centers registered for the workshop. Selection criteria was based on their final year degree mark and recommendation from the respective departments. A registration fee of Rs 1200/- was collected from students to meet their local hospitality. 47 students across the state attended the workshop.

The bridge course was inaugurated by the Head, Department of Physics , Union Christian College Aluva. The workshop paid homage to Dr Valsa Kumar sir for their undying passion for Physics and contributions for the student community. The sessions started from 8.00am in the morning and extended up to 8.00pm in the evening and the sessions included lecture, tutorials and discussions.The workshop visioned to raise the department to be a platform for students to interact with faculty and to continue the interaction during their course of study. The classes were taken by the faculty of department of Physics Dr Madhu K and Dr Pramod Dominic and tutorials were handled by Ms Rakhy Raphael. Dr Manu Punnen John took classes on introduction to programming. Student feedback was taken.

Prof Valsa Kumar endowment fund was used to give each student per college a copy of Mathematical methods for Physicists by Arfkan and Weber. This was intended to be kept by the respective college/department library of the students after the completion of their course which will be useful for successive batches.
