Two day Workshop on Material Synthesis and Characterization

Department of Physics, Union Christian College, Aluva has successfully organized a two day Workshop on Material Synthesis and Characterization on 19th and 20th February 2025. Principal, Dr. Mini Alice inaugurated the workshop. Head of the Department of Physics, Dr. Manu Punnen John gave presidential address. Dr. Julie Ann Joseph and Dr. Reshmi R acted as co-ordinators of the workshop. 40 final year post graduate and research students from far and near colleges attended the workshop along with PG students of the Department.

There were participants from St.Alosius college, Edathua, Marthoma College, Thiruvalla, St.Xaviers College, Aluva, DB College, Thalayolaparambu, SNM College Maliankara, Bharata Matha College, Trikkakkara, St.Paul’s College, Kalamasserry, All the sessions were led by faculty members of the Department of Physics. Dr. Alex Mathew, Dr. Shinoj V.K, Ms. Rakhy Raphael, Dr. Pramod Dominic acted as resource persons. A session on FTIR was led by Dr.Neethumol Varghese from the Department of Chemistry.

An introduction to the experimental and theoretical methods employed in the characterization of nanomaterials was given. The program included introductory lectures on X-ray diffraction, UV Visible Spectroscopy, Photoluminescence, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, an introduction to LateX and an overview of data analysis tools and techniques. Participants were given hands-on training in cutting-edge techniques of data analysis.

Participants were given opportunity to visit the material science research labs in the Department. They were briefed about the various research areas happening in material science. The participants gave a positive feedback for the program.
